Last night one of my roommates and I went down to Clancy's, which is, like, the local informal music Mecca (sadly we've just discovered this, but they have storytelling on Tuesdays!) to see a trad band perform. Greek is an evil, evil language, much more so than any other I've had experience with. It has a different alphabet and uses accent markings, which change a lot, a middle voice in addition to the passive and active, aspect in addition to voice, mood, and tense, a genitive absolute which acts just like the ablative absolute in Latin but makes even ( Read more... )

The Greek professor here is a youngish Greek guy, say mid-30s? named Konstantin, a fact which is only amusing to a few people who read this, who was born in Athens and educated at Oxford. Yesterday I went to Kinsale with a bunch of other people from the program. It's an extraordinarily cute town which I need to go back to, possibly even next weekend, so I can explore better; we took a long and scenic walk to Charles Fort, but didn't see James Fort or the town proper.
